The first mobile company in India was Modi Telstra, which launched its mobile services in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) in 1995. However, the company faced various challenges and eventually had to shut down its operations in 2002. After Modi Telstra, other mobile companies like BPL Mobile, Hutchison Max Telecom (later acquired by Vodafone), and Bharti Airtel started offering mobile services in India. Today, there are several mobile companies operating in India, including Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea, and Bharti Airtel, among others.
